The house, carefully designed by DNA (DesignNature Architecture) Architects in Kerala is a symphony of tropical richness in every sense, busting all myths of having to surrender comfort to area restrictions. The house is a warm corner at Eranhipalam, Calicut cushioned between commercial and residential quarters. The client, was a returning IAS officer who wanted a home for his family of four, that reminded him a lot of his childhood home, surrounded by greenery, but also contemporary enough to appease to the tastes of his children who grew up in modern-day Mumbai. The site presented another challenge. It was only 3.5 cents. The predicament was to have spacious and luxurious spaces that would not be visibly affected by the area restrictions.

Design in Details

The entrance vista brings us into a tropical paradise. Greenery builds up gradually from the entrance, intensifying towards the rear of the plot generating ambiguity to where the plot ends. The house is surrounded by a lush garden to buffer noise and sight from the main road. The residence begins right at the gate, with a sit out emerging from the landscape. A seamless path of circulation begins at the ground floor and continues until the top, connecting all rooms in the process. Each bedroom was placed at a landing. Stair landings and window frames often doubled up as seating, as extended floor plates.

This house is proof that a home does not have to be set in a vast plot to make your dream residence come true. The possibilities are endless.
